Our organization has been in existence since 1991 and is recognized as one of the most respected, organized, and active groups in Southern California. Each year we rescue many Pugs, and the number is increasing; in 2010 we rescued over 210 pugs! Most of us work a full-time job and volunteer for PRSDC. This work demands the time, effort, and love of dozens of volunteers to serve in many capacities.
Pug Rescue's Board of Directors meet several times each year to discuss issues of concern and to plan our various events throughout the year. The general membership meets yearly to be informed by the Board of ongoing issues, general member concerns, and to help organize events. We usually hold six major events throughout the year.
Visit Pug Rescue of San Diegos' web site for more details on the organization. Become a member, foster a pug, become a volunteer and more.
In 2012 Camp Wabenaki was established and in 2013 we received our 501 (c) 3 status as a non for profit organization with the purpose of providing youth a full range of recreational, multi-cultural and educational activities.
Our core mission is to promote the physical, educational, and life skills necessary to prepare and empower children for the leadership roles in their communities and success in their personal lives. Our motto is “Because we have known the torment of thirst we are digging a well for others to drink”
Camp Wabenaki has a long and rich history dating back since 1956 when it was sponsored by the Boys Brotherhood Republic of New York City. In 1959 Camp Wabenaki was relocated to Lake Stahahe S-3 in Harriman State Park. Ralph and Rose Hittman managed the operations of the camp for 43 years until they retired in 1998.
The Boys Brotherhood Republic and Henry Street Settlement merged and managed the operations of Camp Wabenaki until 2008. The American Camping Association (ACA) awarded Ralph Hittman the “Legends in Camping” award in 2006. After 4 years of being dormant Dr. Stephan Hittmann (son of Ralph and Rose Hittman) founded the “new” Camp Wabenaki in 2012 at a new site (S-11) on Lake Stahahe as a non-profit organization to build upon the traditions of Camp Wabenaki and the legacy of his parents.
